VE 75 celebrations in Wendover
We were still in lockdown but with scientific certainty we were reassured that staying 2 metres apart outdoors we could at least wave to one another over the garden fence or from the doorstep on Friday 8 May to celebrate the 75th anniversary of VE Day. Some lucky people will have seen the flypast which presumably was intended for Chequers at around 10.30am. Roads in Wendover that were suitably untroubled by traffic even attempted distanced gatherings, for example at 11am for the two minutes silence at at 3pm for the Toast to the Heroes.
The response to the Wendover Parish Council house decorating competition was impressive and the results can be seen by clicking here.
These photos show part of Wendover in the cool of the evening after a wonderful day of togetherness – at a distance!
During the day Wendover News posted stories from the original VE Day, Tuesday 8 May 1945, gathered from current residents. To read these, please click here.
