Waddesdon Greenway Opens & Plans for the Future

Waddesdon Greenway was formally opened by Transport Minister, Jesse Norman, who’s responsible for walking and cycling on 13th September.The project was funded by the Department for Transport as part of a scheme to connect rural communities to their nearest rail station.

The 4km route from Aylesbury Vale Parkway Station to Waddesdon Manor, allows cyclists and walkers to travel across beautiful countryside in a traffic-free environment and wascompleted with the much appreciated help of volunteers who helped to build two bridges, four benches and fill and lay 3,000 sandbags for 25 culvert headwalls.Over the winter hedges and trees will be planted along the route to provide some much needed shelter and shade.

A Waddesdon Greenway Supporters Group is being set up to help with the ongoing success and maintenance of the route.

John Grimshaw, founder ofSustransand the driving force behind the Waddesdon Greenway project, is now looking at the opportunities to extend the route, eventually linking from Steeple Claydon to Thame, Wendover and beyond. In future the Waddesdon Greenway will become the centre of a hub of quiet routes linking local communities from Calvert to Amersham, Westcott to Haddenham

How can you support this project?

• Use the Waddesdon Greenway

• Help us to keep the Greenway looking good, by collecting any litter or cutting back stray brambles as you pass

• Raise awareness of the path and potential expansion by talking about it to families, friends and colleagues

• Organise events on the route for local schools, or as a sponsored ride venue

• Join our regular volunteer sessions to maintain the path

• Discuss the potential routes with your local councillors, to make sure they are aware of the opportunities
