Wake up, Wendover
Shirley and Robert Phipps would like to thank all those who generously supported a ‘coffee morning’ at their Gables Close home on Wednesday 26thJune, in vigorous opposition toHS2.
Some 70 local residents came through the door to linger in welcome sunshine and enjoy sideshows including Erin’s silverware, Saffron’s Phoenix Cards, Elizabeth Richards’ bookstall and Bernadette’s therapies.
Debbie Lee presided over the abundant cake stall and Jenny Waller teed up the raffle and auction of the many donated prizes.
Amongst the very youngest was little Imogen Watts who defeated all contenders to guess her first name.
Councillor Richards and Rose Chisholm were busy with the illustrations of the HS2 project demonstrating its particularly devastating impact upon Wendover and the environment at large.
The event emphasized a continuing lack of real awareness of the magnitude of this project in the face of persistently misleading arguments put forward by government and its protagonists.
Proceeds of over £900 were donated toWendover HS2and will boost resources towards sustained opposition, particularly on the legal front.
