Waterside lights up blue and green for the Neuro Foundation
Aylesbury Waterside Theatre turned blue and green on Wed 17 May in support of The Neuro Foundation. The charity offers help and support to those affected by neurofibromatosis (NF) – a little- known genetic condition that, amongst other complications, causes tumours to grow on the nervous system. These tumours can be painful, disfiguring, cause deafness and blindness and can also interfere with crucial neurological pathways. They are usually inoperable and can be fatal.
NF affects more than 25,000 people in the UK alone – making it more common than cystic fibrosis, muscular dystrophy and Huntington’s disease combined, yet it isn’t as well-known as any of these conditions.
The Foundation’s campaign, ‘Shine a Light on NF’ asks buildings and landmarks across the globe to light up in blue and green in support of those affected by neurofibromatosis.
Lee Duffy, General Manager of Aylesbury Waterside Theatre spoke of the theatre’s support:
‘It’s important to us a large community hub to play our part and help profile worthy charities, both local and national. This rare condition deserves recognition and we are pleased to illuminate in honour of the Neuro Foundation. They, like so many other charities, work tirelessly to help those directly affected by the conditions whilst also investing time and valuable resources into researching the illness.’
Aylesbury Waterside Theatre sits in good company, with close to 200 sites in 8 countries joining the campaign last year including Niagara Falls, Tower 42, Trafalgar Square, the CN Tower, The BT Tower and the Royal Liver Building.
