Wendover CE Junior School News, June 2017

As ever, Wendover CE Junior School is a very busy place. We are nearing the end of our cycle of class assemblies for parents and I can honestly say that this year has seen the highest quality of presentations I have ever seen. The children were confident about sharing what they have learned this year and a clear enthusiasm for learning. In a time where there is more and more expectation in terms of reading, writing and maths, it is clear that our children have a broad and balanced curriculum; they have produced high quality work across the curriculum, supported through school visits and visiting experts.

As I write this, the school is holding a STEM week. Each child is involved in a group activity to promote interest and understanding in Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths. Their task is to design a product, build it and then bring it to market with presentations being made to their year group. We have had four visitors this week who use STEM skills in their everyday working lives. They have been impressed with our children’s enthusiasm and engagement in the project.

We have a very exciting few weeks ahead, with further educational visits, two residentials, our sports day, ‘move up’ days and the Y6 production – ‘Pirates of the Curry Bean’.

It was lovely to see so many people supporting our summer fayre last Saturday. As a result of the sterling efforts of the PTA, staff and children, and the generosity of our community, we raised over £3,000. This will be put to very good use in supporting the education and development of our young people.
