What’s been going on at the Wendover Community Library?

The summer holidays have seen children and families flooding into Wendover Library for the annual Summer Reading Challenge, “Record Breakers”, along with many other activities, including a Teddy Bears’ Picnic, Animal Edutainment Roadshow, Creation Station and more. This year’s Teddy Bear’s Picnic saw its very first adult teddy collector, who brought an antique bear along to show everyone.

Over 100 children between 4 and 11 years made a pledge at Wendover Library to read 6 books during the holidays, as part of the official reading scheme, earning stickers along the way, with a medal and certificate at the end. The response has been great, with about 60% of those children having returned their reading log by 5th September. An award ceremony is planned for October 3rd for those children to collect their medals and certificates – please advise the library if your children can make it.

Garden Party & Restaurant Raffle Draw

The day kicked off with a young children’s messy craft session run by Bettina of Little Creators. Customers came along to enjoy the garden and drinks/cakes, which were donated and served by staff and volunteers of the library.

The sun came out and graced us with its presence, while Rowan Carter entertained everyone with her woodwind and vocal performance. Rowan has been singing to a very high standard since she was young and visiting the library with her parents for many years.

At midday, The Friends of Wendover Library drew the winning tickets of its 2nd “Restaurant Raffle”, with vouchers all donated by local restaurants & cafes of Wendover.
