Wendover Bowls Club, June 2022 update

We were all sad to hear about the passing of our President, Tony Mogford. A true gentleman who will be missed, not just by us but, by the whole community.

Our outdoor season is well and truly under way. The Dinner celebrating the end of indoor bowling and the start of our outdoor campaign was a great success with a lovely buzz about it. It was good to see over sixty members enjoying a social event that we have missed so much during the last two years.

Our Parrot House lean-to is fully compliant with all government recommendations on ventilation, consisting as it does of just a roof and no walls, the ultimate in air conditioning. I understand that difficulty in finding materials is holding up completion.

The Friday Open evenings are going well with good numbers sampling the joy of bowling. I watched one group who were frighteningly good. I hope it was just beginners luck or I will struggle to get into a team.

Talking of membership, ours is holding up well. Other clubs seem to be finding it difficult to raise teams. Apart from cancellations, we have even had to lend out a couple of our own people to make up numbers. Of course they have strict instructions not to play too well!!

Keep well. Enjoy the summer and let’s hope we have just enough rain to keep things green and enough sun to get us brown.
