Wendover CE Junior School – June 2018

We have been thinking about Awe and Wonder this term. Children have been encouraged to reflect on how much wonder there is in the natural world and challenged to explore the local environment, looking at things from a different perspective. ‘Our Brain’ was also a theme used to consider the wonders of the human brain, comparing it to the world’s fastest computer.

Children have been very busy in all aspects of the curriculum. Year 6 concluded their work on WWI, performing songs, readings and prayers in an audio recording. In Year 5, children have been immersed in a study of Ancient Greece, thoroughly enjoying a visiting theatre company. In lower key stage two, Year 4 had a successful visit to Henley to investigate rivers and Year 3 has completed their study on the Stone Age, making bread and producing their own cave paintings.

Our School Council is preparing for Thursday 24 May when we will be joining in the Wendover Dementia Action Alliance Day to celebrate the fact that the school is a Dementia Friendly organisation. We will be on Manor Waste during the morning, talking to the public about our work and the project. We also continue to strengthen our links with Lindengate and are looking forward to a visit there next month.

The building works to expand our school are progressing well: two brand new classrooms are in operation and the children and teachers are delighted with them. Sadly, both the John Hampden School and Wendover CE Juniors are suffering from unwanted visitors during the evenings and weekends who cause damage and leave behind a lot of litter. If you believe that someone you know may be trespassing, please help them and us by reminding them that this is a criminal offence and it may incur a hefty fine. We are keeping the police informed through CCTV monitoring and they are patrolling the campus regularly.

We are always keen to further strengthen our links with the local community and would welcome more volunteers in school. If you can give just a little time as a volunteer, then please contact the school office: admin@wendoverjunior.co.uk.
