Wendover Community Board funds projects to support local community

Residents and communities in the Wendover area are already starting to reap the benefits from community board funding for local projects and initiatives.

At the board meeting held last night (Tuesday 24 November), members agreed funding for two local projects:

  • An initiative by Bierton Parish Council to support a number of older, vulnerable adults in the local community. The funding will be used to put together a tailored community care package for 20 local residents to bring them some much needed festive cheer
  • Two nature-based wellbeing and resilience projects run by Wendover-based mental health charity Lindengate, benefitting young people aged between 13 and 18. #Youve offers the opportunity for young people to participate in purposeful nature based activities that encourage a natural growth in assertiveness and self confidence. ‘Planted’ offers young people between 13 and 15 who are facing mental health challenges a connection to nature and creativity and the opportunity to gain a sense of achievement, purpose and resilience.

Charlie Powell, General Manager at Lindengate said: “Lindengate is delighted that the community board has agreed to fund our #Youve and Planted programmes. Many young people have had to face huge additional challenges in the past 10 months and the funding will enable us to help some of them to benefit from a stronger connection with nature, whilst learning resilience and coping mechanisms to support their wellbeing. Thank you!”

Like the other 15 community boards across the county, Wendover Community Board has agreed a list of priorities to focus on for this year. The priorities are:

  • Support the local community to recover from COVID-19
  • Focus on the health and wellbeing of local residents
  • Support adults, vulnerable residents, and children to live their best lives
  • Work towards sufficient transport, highways and infrastructure for the area
  • Ensure that the area is a safe environment for local residents

Smaller working groups have been created to focus in more detail and further funding is available towards projects and initiatives tackling these areas.

Julie Ward, Chair of the Wendover Community Board said: “I’m delighted to be able to provide funding to these two very worthy projects. In this way we are able to really start making a difference in our local communities.

“We are keen to hear from other organisations and groups who may benefit from funding.”

Community boards are the local link between Buckinghamshire Council and the community, enabling communities to have a stronger voice, influencing how services are delivered, identifying local priorities and working together to improve local areas.
