Wendover FC – New Season Begins!
Summer? Yes, we too are asking where the glorious rays went to during our season break but this has not stopped us making the most of it.
In July we hosted our annual 5-a-side tournament which saw 25 teams, 175 players and many friends and families come down to raise valuable fund for the club. Our sponsors for this year’s tournament were Grant & Stone – Kitchens & Bathrooms who offered magnificent support to us both prior and on the day.
With a new season comes the time for us to look at restoring the clubhouse and preserving its history for new generations. To help to do this we have been working with Aces High to reframe and mount pictures and certificates which had sadly been left to deteriorate in the clubhouse. If you wish to see our 100-year FA affiliation certificate from 1995, team photos from across the years or perhaps you have some photos with members of the club which you would like to show us, then please come down to the clubhouse on any match day Saturday.
On the pitch we hired local Personal Trainer Andrew Tallyn to train our players, and any other willing locals, throughout July and August. These sessions were open and free to everyone during the summer break and we hope to continue this during the 2017/2018 summer break next year.
Ahead of our first fixtures, we are delighted to be taking receipt of new kit courtesy of our match day sponsor, Sweeney’s Budgens who we have worked alongside for many years. Without their sponsorship we would not be able to compete at the level we do; a big thank you to Dary and the team at Sweeney’s Budgens in aiding us to be one of the district’s and county’s top amateur men’s sides and community clubs (and best dressed too!).
Now the news you have all been waiting for: Our first round of Aylesbury District League fixtures for both the First and Reserves teams will take place on Saturday 2nd September! For the latest fixture details, go to: http://full-time.thefa.com or visit our Facebook page at: www.facebook.com/WendoverFCTowers
We invite you all down to support your local team during the next season and if the weather continues to let us down – don’t fear we have hot tea and coffee and a comfy clubhouse with a pitch view!
