Wendover Music 2019

What do a harpsichord, a saxophone and a flute have in common? Nothing by themselves – but when they join forces with a piano, oboe, harp and strings you have the ingredients for Wendover Music 2019!

Once again we have put together a season of four very contrasting concerts to surprise and delight you. Mahan Esfahani is a maverick harpsichord player – a lover of Bach and an intrepid explorer of all kinds of adventurous and wonderful music for this fascinating instrument. Joanna MacGregor happily breaks the mould of the traditional concert pianist. Like Beethoven, she feels that music is exploration and the piano has limitless possibilities, which she relishes. Saxophonist Jess Gillam – only twenty – wowed the audience at the Last Night of the BBC Proms last season and was seen by millions on television. She radiates sheer joy in communicating with audiences and her music making brims with life and light from a kaleidoscopic line-up of composers. Finally, the London Conchord Ensemble is a brilliant chameleon group, constantly reinventing itself. Their lyrical programme for two, three, five and seven players ranges in mood from serenely pastoral music by Vaughan Williams to one of Mozart’s most sparkling concertos.

Add to this the beautiful space and warmly resonant acoustic of St Mary’s Church and you have a very special series of concerts. So, if you have not been to Wendover Music before, why not give it a try? You will be very welcome – and guaranteed a feast of music!
