Wendover Parish Council – Matters Arising, April 2022
View from the Chair
As I write today, the sun is shining albeit cold and breezy! However, desperate news arrives hourly from Ukraine and our thoughts are with those fleeing conflict and especially those staying to fight on. It puts our concerns very much in perspective.
Some of our projects have been delayed following the storms and high winds but we are expecting the remaining trees to be planted shortly. The cycle path will be completed as far as Wharf Rd by the end of March. Some bicycle symbols have been painted along Lionel Avenue which are frequent and large. Following a conversation with the project manager, it is hoped that remaining symbols will be smaller and more spread out. As with all these projects there are rules as to what must be put in, helpful or not.
We had a meeting with the project manager at the steps/path between Coombe Ave and the station car path to discuss the proposal. Concerns were raised about the potential for collisions between those descending the path and cars backing out of adjacent drives, the overall look of the scheme and size of the path. We wait to see what transpires.
On a more positive note, I can now announce that our application to HS2 Additional projects for the canal path upgrade has been awarded and contracts signed for work starting in the next financial year! My thanks to Peter Elwin of the Wendover Arm Trust, and many members of the Canal and River Trust for their help and support of this application.
I hope that by the next View, there will be more encouraging news from Ukraine. In the meantime, I wish you a peaceful Easter.

New Additions to The Orchard
Following a request from Rennie Grove, the Amenities Committee agreed that a sensory hedge, trees and bench could be placed at the top end of the orchard as a special space for people to be able to remember loved ones.
A sensory hedge is a linear arrangement of plants which can stimulate all of our five senses of touch, taste, smell, sound and sight.
Four silver birch and four rowan tree saplings were planted.
