Wendover Parish Council – Matters Arising – January 2022
View from the Chair
In the words of a famous song “Another year over and what have we done….” Much confusion with Covid and restrictions! Not as good as the original song lyrics but there we go. Since my last View, we have managed the scheduled program of events with the Old Nickers winning the final of the Parish Quiz at the Bowls Club. It was a night of very challenging questions from quiz master Alan Myers and closely fought semi-finals. My thanks to all 16 teams and their supporters, Alan, and Jane Ellis who organised the event for the Council.
Following a consultation with the community, the Council has adopted a new Vision for Wendover and a Community Action Plan, to bring the vision to life. More details can be found here: www.wendover-pc.gov.uk/vision.
Another highlight of the festive period was the annual Christmas Event. Again, my thanks to WPC staff and Councillors, the crowd, stall holders and shop keepers who make this a really lovely occasion.
The Council are investigating the use of the Manor Waste within its Charter. As part of this we are running a consultation until Monday 10 January, both on WPC Facebook and website, so please comment. As the New Year starts, there are some initiatives which should be completed by spring. Bucks Council will be installing a CCTV camera on the junction of Church Lane and South St to monitor HS2 HGV traffic, due in January. The Wendover and Villages Community Board have pledged monies towards the proposed new Skate Park and the NHS health check bus is due to visit Wendover on 6 January 2022 in the library (see WPC website).
That’s all except to wish everyone a Happy, Healthy and Prosperous New Year!!

Grants

Applicants for funding must meet eligibility criteria. For more information please refer to the Grants Policy which can be found on our website www.wendover-pc.gov.uk/grants. Please note the closing date for a major grants application is 31 January 2022, to be awarded in the new financial year from April 2022.
Council Tax 2022/23: What is the Precept?
The precept is the Parish Council’s share of the council tax collected by Buckinghamshire Council.
Income and expenditure for the next financial year is calculated by the Parish Council in December. The precept demand is then sent to the billing authority.
Examples of projects and works that are reviewed during the precept process by the Parish Council include:
- Providing and maintaining allotments
- Providing and maintaining open spaces including installing and maintaining play equipment
- Managing and supporting local events and festivals
- Providing and maintaining street lighting in residential areas (excluding the main highways)
- Maintenance of some rights of way
- Devolved Services such as grass and verge cutting in 30mph areas
The precept calculations for April 2022 to March 2023 were approved by the Parish Councillors at the Parish Council meeting on Tuesday 7 December. The precept was advised at £326,328 which equates a 2.73% rise or £2.21 rise to a Band D property over the entire year.
Current project updates can be found on our website: www.wendover-pc.gov.uk/projects.
Christmas Celebration Event
On Wednesday 1 December Wendover Parish Council hosted their Christmas Celebration on Manor Waste. It was a festive evening that left the centre of Wendover buzzing despite the rain!
Wendover Parish Council would like to thank the businesses who donated to the Christmas event. All proceeds were donated to Wendover FC and Wendover Junior FC.
The Salt Kitchen, Cheesy Grahams and Coffee and Donuts all kindly donated 10% of their Christmas event takings.
Many thanks to Number 2 for their sponsorship towards the Christmas Tree on Manor Waste.
Finally, we would like to thank the children at Wendover Junior School, Little Acorns Kindergarten and Jack in the Box Pre-school for making the fantastic Christmas tree decorations and the John Colet School Choir for their wonderful performances!
