Wendover Youth Centre, summer 2017

As we embark on a new academic year, with lots of exciting things in the pipeline, let’s just look back at the end of last term’s Youth Festival.

Wendover Youth Centre partnered with Aylesbury Youth Action as part of our new Way (Wendover Area Youth) Board initiative to put on our third youth festival. We started with lots of fun filled assemblies at the John Colet School involving students racing around the hall on a children’s tractor to promote the go karts we would have at the festival. We sold 186 bands which enabled young people from year 5 upwards to access: big inflatable slides, bungee run, Zorb football, Go Karts, archery, water fight zone and Sumo Suits. It was a good day had by all. We had lots of young volunteers and some adult volunteers. Young people attended from mainly the John Colet and the Junior School, but from other colleges and schools too.

We had a Messy Church craft tent for the younger ones, put on for us by the Wendover Free Church, We also had Gary Hull from RAF Halton manning the BBQ with the help of his daughter, and Tom from Aylesbury Youth for Christ. And a first response ambulance from RAF Halton doing a show and tell for us, as well.

We would like to say a BIG thank you to Sweeney’s Budgens for donating the food for our BBQ, and to all our volunteers who made the day possible, plus Choco Kebabs, Premier Sports, The Wendover Free Church, Aylesbury Youth for Christ, RAF Halton, Fun 4 kids, Dave Rollins (go karts), Gwyn Huntley (Music), The Coffee Stop and Zola Zorbs.

As we go in to the new year, we will be continuing the Way (Wendover Area Youth) Board with AYA. We are hoping to continue our multimedia research into the needs of the Wendover area and to work with the Local Area Forum and the Neighbourhood Planning steering group to action what we find. If you are age 13-18 and would like to join and exciting new project then contact me on becky@wendoveryouth.co.uk.

We will also be launching a new initiative this term: Join one of our clubs and grab a loyalty card. If you get 5 stamps from the sessions you attend, you can join us at a good price, at THORPE PARK, in October Half Term…

As always we are still looking for volunteers, please contact us: becky@wendoveryouth.co.uk

Thank you, Wendover Youth Centre
