Wendover’s Dan Wizard to take on a Bank Holiday Challenge of a Lifetime
Wendover resident Dan Wizard will run 100km on Saturday 23rd May to raise money for local charity Lindengate and the national charity Epilepsy Research UK.
Dan (58) will run from London to Brighton in one of the UK’s greatest endurance events. Of the 3000 entrants, only 500 will run it as a full on 100km ultra-marathon. The run starts in Richmond on Thames and will finish at Brighton Race course.
Dan has lived in Buckinghamshire for 55 years and moved to Wendover 24 years ago. A former Sir Henry Floyd pupil, Dan said “This really is a huge challenge for me and has been a severe test of my fitness, determination and stamina”.
Dan is used to long distance running and has in the past taken part in the London and New York marathons. But this latest challenge has meant a gruelling training schedule and has seen him taking part in local races plus events in the Lake District and the New Forest and most recently the Boston Marathon.
Dan is raising money for two charities both of which are close to his heart. He is a volunteer for Wendover based charity Lindengate and having seen his daughter suffer with epilepsy for many years, has also chosen to support Epilepsy Research UK. He says “I am really grateful to all those who have sponsored me so far. Knowing the money raised will make a difference to the lives of so many people will certainly carry me through to the finish line in Brighton”.
On the day a support crew consisting of his wife Angie, son Sam (24) and their twin daughters Alice and Ellie (21) plus a group of friends, will provide vital refreshments and moral support throughout the challenge.
