The Whitchurch Morris Men – Your Local Side

The Whitchurch Morris Men – Your Local Side

I would like to introduce ourselves. We are the Whitchurch Morris Men and we are Wendover’s nearest Morris side. The Side originates from Whitchurch but in actual fact the side operates out of Wilstone for various historic and practical reasons and has done for many years.

It is the time for our annual Autumn Vale Tour and it will be attended by around 60 Morris Men and musicians from all over the Country. As hosts, we have arranged for a tour that takes in some interesting venues as we travel from Wilstone, through Aylesbury and into the Vale proper. You can find us performing at the places and times listed below:-

The Whitchurch Morris Men Autumn Vale Tour 8th November 2014

10.45 – 11.30 Manor Waste,Wendover (Outside Budgens)

12.30pm Upper High Street, Aylesbury

1.30pm The Harrow, Cambridge Street, Aylesbury

3.00pm The White Swan, Whitchurch

4.00pm The George and Dragon, Quainton

5.00pm The Rose and Crown, Wingrave

6.00pm The Half Moon, Wilstone

7.30pm Tour Feast at Wilstone (private event)

So who will be there? We are expecting Etcetera from Enfield, Claro Sword from Harrogate, Thaxted, Brackley and a representative of the Durham Rams, plus several others who have still to confirm.

You may notice that the last item in the Tour line up is the Feast and with me cooking, the action word there is Feast. Having worked up a thirst and an appetite, from my youth in Her Majesty’s Flying Club, Cyprus in the late 70’s comes to mind with many a well fed night in Mahmout’s in Limassol. Therefore, the menu is going to be a Cyprus Kebab in the traditional (non-tourist), style consisting of 5 meat courses all served with a selection of salads, followed by fruit of the season, coffee and Turkish Delight. I will also be providing a vegetarian option and the liquid refreshment will be from Tring. Apparently, there is expected to be some dancing and singing after that; well singing maybe.

By the time you read this, the time remaining will be very short to qualify for such a gastronomic challenge. Practice nights are on Tuesdays at 8:15pm in Wilstone village hall and all you men have to do is come along and join us.
