Wolf spotted walking in Wendover Woods

Volf and Lee Lloyd at Wendover Woods

If you were in Wendover Woods on Tuesday you might have been surprised to find a Wolf walking the Firecrest Trail.

Local charity fundraiser and cosplay enthusiast Volf, the Wolf of Aylesbury, was undertaking a 4km walk in full wolf costume as part of Florence Nightingale Hospice Charity’s Paws for Florence Challenge.

“I’ve always liked helping people, and when I heard about this challenge to support a local charity, it seemed like a perfect way to mix two things I enjoy.“ said Volf, who raised over £750 in sponsorship for the walk.  “The weather was perfect, but a bit more breeze would have been perfect for cooling!”

The charity has been reaching out to the local canine population and their owners to fundraise together through October to help them support local patients and their families.

Dog-loving supporters have been taking an array of challenges, from walking 100 miles over the month, to learning 100 new tricks and having selfies with 100 humans.

“We know how important pets, and especially dogs, are to their families – our Hospice see it so often with beloved cats, dogs, hamsters and even horses, coming in to spend time with their owners,” says Lee Lloyd, Head of Fundraising at the charity.  “This challenge is an opportunity for people to come together as a virtual group and share their experiences of dog ownership and fundraising to support a local charity.

Local dog training company Potter Paws have sponsored the charity’s challenge and have been providing dog care and training tips for the participants through the month.  Debbie Potter says,  “Florence Nightingale Hospice Charity have supported so many families within our local community through such difficult times.  We are proud to be involved and able to provide our knowledge and support for the Paws for Florence challenge to enable such valuable work to continue.”
