World Scout Jamboree 2019

Whilst July 2019 seems a long time away for some people, 2 local youngsters are busy preparing for the trip of a life time which will take place next summer.

Will Inkley (1st Wendover Explorers) and Sophie Fines-Allin (1st Wendover Scouts) have been selected to represent the Buckinghamshire Unit at the 24th World Scout Jamboree in West Virginia, USA.

Will: “My name is Will & I have been selected as one of 36 to join Unit 50 at the World Scout Jamboree representing Bucks & the UK. 45000 people will be there, (bigger than the Olympics) representing over 200 countries where Scouting is active. I am a keen Explorer Scout in Wendover where I also went to Scouts & Cubs. I understand how great scouting is at getting kids like me ready for adulthood in a fun, challenging but safe environment.”

Sophie: “My name is Sophie, I am part of the Wendover Scout Troop, I will be one of the youngest scouts, 14, when I attend the Jamboree.

“Scouting enables both boys and girls to try new experiences and challenge themselves. Being part of a scout troop enables me to try things that I have never experienced before. It encourages me to go on adventures, and experience amazing opportunities. The Jamboree lets Scouts from all over the world to meet new people and learn about the different cultures of the world. I am looking forward to working together will scouts from all over the world, to learn new skills and take part in adventurous activities.

“Over the next 18 months we will be out working hard at the training weekends so that we will ready to give our very best at the Jamboree. Obviously, all this costs money, so to enable us to go to this momentous & unique occasion we both need to raise over £3000 each. Wendover Scout Group & our District will support some of these costs, but the rest is to be raised by events organised by us & the others in Unit 50. This is all part of the adventure that is Jamboree.”

If you would like to learn more about the World Scout Jamboree and show your support for Sophie and Will, they will be at the Manor Waste Market on Saturday 16th June with information and a fundraising stall. Looking forward to seeing you there.
