Wendover Youth Centre (never underestimate the young)
WYC’s 7th AGM was held at the end of March with an emphasis on what the young people of Wendover have been involved in during the past year and a Vision for the future of Youth Work in Wendover. Finances continue to be tight but with the help of the Community, Wendover Parish Council and The Lionel Abel Smith Trust we manage to survive.
The numbers show an impressive footfall through the Centre. During term time an average weekly attendance is over 300, and during school holidays we still see attendance approaching 250 per week.
In addition to being involved in the Clubs, activities and trips, Young People are also active Volunteers in the Community, and with the WAY Board (funded by BCC) making them active participants with local Councils and other organisations.
Our Youth Workers also work closely with the Schools on the Wharf Road Campus.
Our Vision for the future ensures continuity of this good work whilst expanding our activities. In summary a vibrant, full, sustainable and well resourced centre working in partnership with others to support the needs of the Young People of Wendover – a model that others wish to copy, and that is loved and valued by the Young People.
The Trustees’ 2019 priorities are to increase our annual income, partly by working with local businesses, and to bring on new Trustees to add fresh ideas and younger energy.
We are also actively seeking a second Youth Worker to support our work.
If you would like to help please contact: Tony Playle, Chair of the Trustees tony.playle@btinternet.com) to discuss.
Thank you Wendover for your continued support.
