Your Amazing Brain: A User’s Guide

You have an amazing brain, in fact everybody does! But how does it make sense of the world around you?

Opening this November, a new exhibition at Discover Bucks Museum in Aylesbury will show you just how amazing our brains really are. From emotions to our senses, you will find out how your brain interprets what it sees, hears, smells, and feels. This family-friendly exhibition will take you on a journey inside your brain, to find out just what makes you, you!

With over 15 interactive puzzles and ‘mind-bending illusions’ we will show you how your brain can play tricks on you. Get ready for some ‘WOW’ moments that might leave you questioning what you thought you knew.

With hands-on activities that all the family can take part in, this exhibition will appeal to visitors of all ages. But don’t worry, you don’t need to go it alone. We have enlisted some help, our two ‘Amazing Brain’ guides will join you in your journey through the brain.

So, keep your eyes peeled for Brian the brain, he has all the clues and is going to tell you everything you need to know. And for our younger visitors, Custard the bird will show you fun extra activities to do along the way.

You might not think science is for you, but we are going to show you it’s for everyone!

This exhibition was first developed for Banbury Museum & Gallery in collaboration with the Wellcome Centre for Integrative Neuroimaging at the University of Oxford and funded by the Wellcome Trust.

Professor Heidi Johansen-Berg, Director of the Wellcome Centre for Integrative Neuroimaging, University of Oxford, says:

‘We’re delighted that Discover Bucks Museum is giving ‘Your Amazing Brain’ a new lease of life, since its first outing at Banbury Museum earlier this year. The exhibition was a huge success, and a real testament to the enthusiasm and hard work of researchers and museum partners. We look forward to welcoming local families from Buckinghamshire, and we can’t wait to find out what this new audience thinks of the experience.’

Discover Bucks Museum is delighted to have the opportunity to host this unique exhibition in Aylesbury and to accompany it, there will be an exciting programme of events and activities developed with the team of scientists at the University of Oxford.

Your Amazing Brain exhibition opens on Saturday 26 November 2022 and runs until Saturday 15 April 2023.
