Your local community board needs you

Have you got an interest in helping to improve your local area? If so then your local community board wants to hear from you.

Members of Haddenham & Waddesdon Community Board put out such a plea to their local community when they met last week. At the board’s formal meeting on Wednesday (30 Jun), members took a look back at the progress of the past 12 months and also planned ahead to agree on their focus for the next year.

Looking back, board members reflected on some of the highlights of the past year which included:

  • Partnering with local charities to create the Wild Aylesbury Vale wildlife project with a competition and micro-grants to help encourage wildlife, improve our environment and support our health and wellbeing.
  • Providing a Covid response to support projects across the area, including the Waddesdon Wednesday Club which helped older residents to engage online and the Waddesdon Support Group.
  • Bringing together 60+ like-minded people to work with partners to tackle issues like speeding traffic, flood risk and increased freight on our roads.
  • Enabling communities like Ashendon and Brill to create footpaths to enable residents to access local amenities safely by foot.
  • Improving local provision for young people as they come out of lockdown. From funding mentoring support to refurbishing playgrounds and supporting a pop-up skateboard park.

 

In total the board funded 31 different local projects.

For 2021/22 the board will focus on the following areas with action groups being developed:

  • Economic recovery
  • Health & wellbeing
  • Environment
  • Highways & travel

 

Any local resident, group or organisation with an interest in any of these areas is invited to get involved. The board will have further funding to support projects and initiatives that fall into the areas of focus. Chairman Ashley Waite explained: “We are really keen to hear from any local group or organisation seeking funding for a project that supports our key priorities for the coming year. Many projects have already benefitted and we want to make sure that the funding we have available is able to improve the lives of our local community.”
