Generous Buckinghamshire resident helps local NHS staff to get back in the saddle
Local resident, Peter Thomas, kindly donated two brand new Ecosmo 20” fold-up bikes (worth £250 each) to help BHT staff get to work during the COVID-19 pandemic.
To make sure the bikes found their most deserving owners, staff at the Trust were asked to nominate colleagues who they felt would most benefit from a brand new bike to get to and from work on.
Jane Ball, Senior Medical Secretary at Wycombe Hospital, and Lee Kirby, Medical Support Worker at Stoke Mandeville Hospital, were the two lucky members of staff selected to be presented with the new bikes from over 60 nominations received.
Jane has worked for the Trust for more than 20 years and is known for being kind, considerate and compassionate. Receiving the new bike will mean she no longer has to walk to and from work each day.
Jane said: “I’m absolutely delighted not only to have been nominated but to have won one of these folding bikes! I am over the moon that I will now be able to join my husband on bike rides. After being inside in the office all day it will be such a pleasure to be able to get on my bike and get some exercise and fresh air.
“I’m very grateful to Karen, my colleague, for nominating me, and to Peter Thomas who donated it.”
Lee has worked for the Trust for more than 12 years and colleagues describe him as a great team player who always goes the extra mile for his patients.
Lee said: “I am very grateful to be selected to win the bike, this is the first time that I have ever won something.
“I would like to say a big thank you to the gentleman who kindly donated the bikes to our Trust. I will be using it daily to get to work as well as keeping active.”
Peter, who donated the bikes, said: “I am so happy that these two members of staff have been nominated by their colleagues, and I am really pleased that the bikes will be used as I had hoped they would be.”
Trust executive Neil Macdonald said: “We have received some wonderful donations over the past few months to support our staff and improve their wellbeing throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, and Peter’s very generous donation will support the health, wellbeing and morale of two very hardworking and well-respected colleagues.
“Thank you so much to Peter for caring about our staff at this time.”
